Train lighting

In Tokyo area, we are worried about the atomic plant situation continuously, however our life style is quite a normal. But sometimes we know differences.

This morning I got a train to move for the Shinjuku station. As soon as the train started, the conductor announced that they would go out the lighting.





Nobody complained. I wondered the lighting were not necessary actually. If so, we can save a lot of energy more than we used before. A train car has 24pcs of 32W HF fluorescent lamps. They consume 768W per a train car. Therefore one run has 10 train cars will consume about 7.7kW normally.

In the day time, many trains are running in Tokyo area, so the energy consumption are huge.

Before the 0311, we have a lot of a standard that we must hold by. But now we have to review these standards flexibly.



Normally a lot of fluorescent lamps are lighting.

Voice why Aaron stays in Japan

Aaron came to Japan from Australia when he was a university student, after he went back to his country once, but he came back to Japan again and last year he opend an Aussie hamburger restaurant named "BUKOWSKI burger".



His restaurant is located 1 minutes walk from my office, since the Japanese situation was very serious, I thought he had already gone back to his country and I regreted I coundn't have his nice aussie hamburger anymore.



But today I found his restaurant was still open, so I could enjoyed his nice burger again. We had a talk about business situation and the day of the earthquake, and I asked why you stayed in Japan, then he explained me as follows.

Planed blackout today

Today our area (group 5) had a blackout from 18:45-21:30.
Following are movies and pictures that I took then.


I went to a ramen restaurant around 18:30 , when I started to eat it, the blackout was happened.

After I finished the ramen, I moved to the bike parking.
Emergency battery lighting helped us very much.





Signals didn't light, neither.
Policemen did trafic control.




A candle time without TV generated a family conversation.

Mac Book Pro 13inc was sold out

Today I visited to Yodobashi Camera that was a mass retailer, we usually go there when we buy home electrical appliances, PCs and mobile phones. And I checked the Mac corner, I found that Mac Book Pro 13inc and Mac Book Air(11inc and 13inc both) were all sold out completery and the board said next shipping status was not clear.

I'm not sure this occuered by chaos of distribution. But the north part of Japan have some electronic components factories and I heard that these componets delivery time was very long, threfore, some electronic hardwares may not be difficult to obtain in the near future.

Planned Blackout

After the earthquake, Tokyo Electric Power Company(TEPCO) started planned blackout. They divided 5 area where they supplied electric power and set the schedule. Today I had the blackout from 18:30 to 21:30.

It was the first time for me that I knew the blackout before it happend. During the blackout, it was very calmness and it made me realize that I lived in unusual time.

Before the 311, many people said that we had to save the energy for the earth, but some people said for their business, it didn't hand on passion and seriousness.

But now I feel seriousness and many people's wish that bearing up the blackout is one of a little thing that we can do for people in disaster area.
